I though I would share 10 facts about my hometown of Whitefish, MT. It is an amazing place to call home.

  1. In 1904, the Great Northern Railway officially arrived in Whitefish – marking the official date of the birth of Whitefish
  2. As of 2014, Whitefish’s population is 6,402 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of 5.28 percent.
  3.  The median home cost in Whitefish is $248,000. Home appreciation the last year has been 4.50 percent.
  4.  Compared to the rest of the country, Whitefish’s cost of living is 16.20% Higher than the U.S. average.
  5. The unemployment rate in Whitefish is 6.6 percent(U.S. avg. is 6.30%). Recent job growth is Positive. Whitefish jobs have Increased by 2.65 percent.
  6.  Before Whitefish was a tourist destination many of its residents were supported by the Timber industry and the Railroad.
  7. Whitefish Mountain Resort “The Big Mountain” has over 3,000 skiable acres.
  8. Whitefish was initially called “Stumptown”. A lot of trees had to come down to make the town. You may here “Stumptown to Ski Town”
  9. Whitefish is about 25 miles from Glacier National Park, and its over 800 miles of trails.
  10. Whitefish Lake Golf course originally had an air strip on the front 9. This was reconsidered for safety reasons.
